Amitabh Bachan wins Dada Saheb Phalke award

 

The Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan has been honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Prakash Javedkar, Cabinet Minister of Information and Broadcasting, has announced that the legendary actor will be awarded with the highest award in Indian cinema.

Javadekar tweeted on September 24, “The legend Amitabh Bachchan who entertained and inspired for 2 generations has been selected unanaimously for #DadaSahabPhalke award. The entire country and international community is happy. My heartiest Congratulations to him.”

There has been so far only 49 awardees who have received this prestigious award. Devika Rani was the first recipient and was awarded at the 17th National Film Awards. Prithviraj Kapoor (1971) and actor Vinod Khanna (2017) were only two actors to be awarded posthumously. Manna Dey (2007), Shashi Kapoor (2014), Shyam Bengal (2005), etc are some of the other legends who have received this award.

Bachchan is famous for his roles – which have been both critically and commercially successful films. He has been featured in several Bollywood classics such as Zanjeer, Deewaar, Sholay, etc. His recent successes include Piku, Pink, etc. He has also acted in supporting role in Baz Luehan’s cinematic version of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s book ‘The Great Gatsby’ and is also popular for hosting the small screen quiz game Kaun Banega Crorepati.

He has also been awarded Padma Shri in 1984, the Padma Bhushan in 2001, the Padma Vibhushan in 2015, etc among other many other awards.

He has received congratulations from Mumbai Police, Sachin Tendulkar, Karan Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Rajnikanth, Madhuri Bhandarkar, Mumbai Police, etc among many others.
