Bollywood Oscars to be held in India for the first time

The International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) is popularly known as the Bollywood Oscars and for the first time, the event will be held in India.

The 20th IIFA Awards Ceremony will be held in Mumbai and the Indian Film Industry will celebrate another year of booming success across different markets in the world. Previously, IIFA Awards have been held only internationally like in Singapore, Bangkok, Toronto or London.

India has the biggest film industry in the world according to the number of movies made per year. Last year the industry’s growth was 12.2% including all regional language movies. Indian movies have been growing their market share in China as well. Aamir Khan’s movies have done the best in China.

One of the nominations for IIFA best movies is Andhadhun which grossed the highest in China. Other nominees are Raazi, Padmaavat and Badhaai Ho. Netflix, Hotstar and other digital platforms have also infused new lifeblood in the industry by paving way for more revenue and additional option for distribution of the movies. Unlike Indian Censorship, Netflix and Amazon Prime do not have similar restrictions on Content and language which has given Indian movie makers more freedom when it comes to a certain kind of content or language.

IIFA award ceremony is to be held on Wednesday in Mumbai with all the big stars making their presence on the red carpet. Whether Aamir Khan shows up or not, is another question altogether.
